A perennial is a plant that lives for at least 3 seasons, is winter hardy, and reappears year after year. On average, most perennials bloom over a three week period, and some may continue to bloom sporadically throughout the season. Most Perennials are known as Herbaceous, meaning soft, succulent, non-woody stems.

Consider these criteria for choosing the correct perennial for your location:
  • Plant Hardiness
  • Mature Plant Size
  • Function
  • Pest and Disease Resistance
  • Maintenance Requirements
  • Form, Flower and Seasonal Effect
  • Site Considerations ( Sun/Shade, Soil Type, Drainage)
    Seasonal Maintenance:
  • Irrigation
  • Fertilization
  • Pinching and Deadheading
  • Division
  • Mulching

The perennials listed below are the ones that we feel are conducive to our Zone 5b-6a climate and are good performers in the landscape.
